PINE LUMBERS

Pine wood is rich in resin and greasy to the touch. The characteristic design is not appreciable to the naked eye when wood is still green, it appears once dried when sapwood and heartwood deeply change respectively to the colour of honey and to the dark brown-red.

Histological structure:

Grain: straight;

Texture: medium to fine.

 

Characteristic defects:

Sound and loose knots, from small to large;

Small resin pockets

Occasional teal-blue stains and other chromatic variations due to fungus.

 

Permeabilty:

sapwood permeable, heartwood from permeable to impermeable..

 

Working properties:

Sawing: trouble free;

Drying: easy and quick, but some risk of checks and warp;

Planing: easy;

Glueing: easy;

Nailing and screwing: easy;

Finishing: trouble free.

 

Main uses::

Construction and carpentry;

Flooring, ceiling, doors and garments;

Panels;

Chipwood and plywood.
